A resident of Anapa is accused of treason.

A man spent two days transmitting data about the level of mobile phone signals in Anapa to Ukrainian special services, claims the prosecutor's office.

The court in Krasnodar will consider the case of a 46-year-old resident of Anapa, accused of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of Russia). The charges brought against the man based on FSB materials provide for a prison sentence of twelve to twenty years.

According to the prosecution's version, from January 21 to 23, 2026, a resident of Anapa, at the request of the Security Service of Ukraine, collected "technical information about the level of mobile phone signals" and mobile internet coverage in the resort city. This data was transmitted to the SBU "for use against the security of the Russian Federation," stated the prosecutor's office of Krasnodar Krai on June 23.

The criminal case has been sent to the Krasnodar Regional Court for substantive consideration, as noted in the publication of the departmental Telegram channel. The names of those accused of treason in the court's registry are concealed.

The publication by the prosecutor's office does not provide information about the occupation of the accused, but his age approximately corresponds to that of elevator electrician Maxim Ovchinnikov from Anapa, who was detained, according to his mother, back in January, - he was born in 1980. Only at the end of May did it become known that he is being held in SIZO-1 in Krasnodar.

The FSB only reported on July 4 the detention of a resident of Anapa, who, according to the security forces, was gathering information at the request of Ukrainian special services; in the published operational video, an acquaintance identified Ovchinnikov by his physique, voice, clothing, and leather bag. The security services claimed that the detainee was collecting data on military facilities and enterprises of the fuel and energy complex for Ukrainian special services, but such facilities are not mentioned in the prosecutor's statement.

As Ovchinnikov's mother recounted, the man was detained on January 27. During the detention, he was beaten, and an ambulance took him to the city hospital in Anapa with suspected splenic rupture. In the hospital, the security forces did not leave Ovchinnikov and did not allow his closest relatives to see him, and subsequently, the man underwent so-called "carousel arrests."

"Carousel arrests" refer to a series of consecutive administrative punishments that usually precede the initiation of a criminal case. Such arrests under administrative articles give security forces time to exert pressure on a person deprived of freedom, allowing them to fabricate materials for criminal prosecution. Thus, in 2023, this practice was applied to Anapa resident Dmitry Polunin: over six months, he was arrested ten times for criticizing the special operation in Ukraine, hooliganism, and disobedience to the police, and then a case was initiated against him for cooperating confidentially with a foreign organization. In the summer of 2024, Polunin was sentenced, which was classified.
