The ecologist pointed to signs of new oil leaks from the sunken tankers near Anapa.

In satellite images of the Kerch Strait taken in September, slick spots are visible, extending from the cofferdams installed over the sunken parts of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239," noted ecologist Georgy Kavanoyan.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 17, the Marine Rescue Service reported that the radar image from September 16 showed pollution of unknown origin in the area of the sunken parts of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239".

In radar satellite images of the Kerch Strait from September 4, 5, 10, 17, and 21, slick spots are visible, extending from bright points – cofferdams installed over the sunken bow and stern parts of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239," noted ecologist Georgy Kavanoyan.

Kavanoyan posted the publication with satellite images on his Telegram channel on September 22. According to him, the project Sky Eye shared the images. The publication used Sentinel satellite images posted on the ESRI platform and expert developments from the Lloret company on operational satellite monitoring, noted the ecologist.

Kavanoyan attached a video with radar satellite images from Sentinel-1 to the publication. Dark spots and elongated stripes are visible on the water's surface next to bright points, which the ecologist identified as cofferdams over the sunken parts of the tankers. In images taken on different days, the shape and extent of the dark areas change.

Recall that on August 21, the authorities reported the completion of oil pumping from the sunken parts of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239". On August 26, satellite images showed oil films in the areas of the sinking of the stern part of "Volgoneft-212" and the bow part of "Volgoneft-239," and the Sky Eye project suggested that the completion of pumping does not mean the cessation of oil product leaks.

On September 4, it became known that the Russian government had not published reports from meetings of the government commission on eliminating the consequences of the oil spill for two weeks after the announcement of the completion of pumping.

On December 15, 2024, two tankers carrying oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died. In addition, an oil product spill occurred, leading to catastrophic environmental consequences, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Oil Spill in the Kerch Strait".
