New pollution has been recorded near the sunken tankers close to Anapa.

On the radar image from September 16, pollution of unknown origin was noted in the area of the sunken parts of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" near Anapa, reported the Marine Rescue Service.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 14, volunteers reported pollution in the surf zone of the Black Sea over a four-kilometer stretch from the port of Taman and beyond Cape Zhelezny Rog with a fine fraction of an unknown oil product.

From August 11 to September 16, slicks were repeatedly recorded on satellite images in the area of the sinking of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239". They are visible on at least nine radar images, noted analysts from the environmental monitoring project based on satellite data "Transparent World".

"Experts from the project "Transparent World" analyzed this series of images and sent a request to the Marine Rescue Service. In the response from the agency, it was indicated that on the radar image from September 16, pollution of "unknown origin" was noted in the area of the sunken parts of the tankers," the message published today on the project's Telegram channel said.

At the time of receiving the image, the Marine Rescue Service vessels were in shelter due to existing restrictions. After they were lifted, the service planned to survey the area and, upon detecting pollution, begin its elimination.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations report on the evening of September 16, no oil product discharges to the shore were recorded. At the same time, analysts from "Transparent World" emphasized that slicks on the surface of the sea in the area of the sinking continued to appear, as stated in the message.

Recall that on August 21, the authorities reported the completion of the pumping of fuel oil from the sunken parts of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239". On August 26, satellite images showed oil slicks at the sinking sites of the stern part of "Volgoneft-212" and the bow part of "Volgoneft-239". On September 4, it became known that the Russian government had not published reports for two weeks from the meetings of the commission on eliminating the consequences of the fuel oil spill after the pumping was completed.

On December 15, 2024, two tankers with fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died.
