Two sappers were blown up by a mine in the Agdere district.

In the village of Chardaghly in the Agdere district, sappers Alzamin Surkhayly and Fizuli Mirzaev were blown up by a mine while carrying out demining operations.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of Azerbaijan periodically detonate mines in the former conflict zone of Karabakh. Thus, on August 2, a worker from a private company involved in humanitarian demining operations, Akhad Akhadov, was blown up by an anti-personnel mine, sustaining multiple shrapnel wounds.

In the village of Chardaghly in the Agdere district, two employees of a non-governmental organization – 32-year-old Alzamin Surkhayly and 28-year-old Fizuli Mirzaev – were blown up by a mine while carrying out demining work, reported Report.az on August 3, citing the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).

Both victims were hospitalized in the emergency department of the Terter district hospital. Surkhayly was diagnosed with an amputation of the right shin at the level of the ankle joint, while Mirzaev sustained multiple shrapnel wounds to the front wall of the abdomen, noted the APA agency on August 3.

It is worth noting that residents of the Karabakh villages of Khydyrly, Saryjaly, and Khorovlu previously told a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" that they were thoroughly informed about the ongoing mine threat. Even before resettlement, they underwent mandatory mine safety training, and after moving, they met with representatives from the mine action agency, police, and local authorities.

The villagers noted that they pay special attention to children and constantly remind them not to enter dangerous areas. However, many uncleared areas remain near the former front line and destroyed settlements. According to residents, some detonations occur after people ignore warnings, enter closed zones, or breach barriers.

The head of one of the NGOs involved in educational projects in Karabakh confirmed to the "Caucasian Knot" that hundreds of kilometers of territory along the former line of contact remain potentially dangerous. The head of the NGO "Military Lawyers" Telman Abilov noted that complete demining of Karabakh could take many years.
