Rostov-on-Don authorities have allocated more than 20 million rubles for the accommodation of refugees from Ukraine.

The Rostov-on-Don budget is allocating 28.1 million rubles for the construction and maintenance of temporary accommodation centers for refugees and their food. The regional governor reported that several refugee centers remain in the region.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," the evacuation of residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) to Russia began on February 18, and on February 24, a special operation by Russian troops in Ukraine began. By July 2022, 2.3 million refugees had arrived in the region. Some internally displaced persons previously reported that they were forced to apply for payments in Russia due to the difficult economic situation, and they also complained of delays in payments. They also stated that they had to leave for Russia at the insistence of local authorities, and that they want to return at the first opportunity, since they still have families and homes in the LPR and DPR.

Rostov authorities will invest 28.1 million rubles in the construction and maintenance of temporary accommodation centers for refugees from Ukraine in 2026. This money will also cover meals for refugees at the temporary accommodation centers. The information was posted on the agenda of the Rostov City Duma meeting, according to 161.ru.

Funds for this budget item were allocated through inter-budget transfers through the Civil Defense and Emergency Management Agency.

At the end of May of this year, Rostov Region Governor Yuri Slyusar reported that several temporary accommodation centers still exist in the region. People from Donbas and Ukraine are staying there.

One of the main temporary accommodation centers is located in Azov, at the Priboy Hotel. As of January 2025, 102 refugees were staying there, 83 of whom were from the DPR. The temporary accommodation centers noted that the authorities are allocating funds for the maintenance of refugees in Azov, the publication writes.

"Several temporary accommodation centers continue to operate in the Rostov Region to accommodate citizens arriving from the territories of Donbas and Ukraine. We are providing them with all necessary assistance," Rostov Region Governor Yuri Slyusar reported on his Telegram channel on May 25.
