Information about pollution in Tuapse comes amid the announced opening of beaches

Booms contaminated with fuel oil washed up on Primorsky Beach in Tuapse, and the beach of the former Vesna boarding house has not been cleared of fuel oil, despite the authorities' announcement that the resort season had opened.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," approximately 32,500 cubic meters of contaminated soil and a water-fuel oil mixture have been collected and removed to Tuapse. Rescuers are cleaning the tiles on the embankment and roadsides, the task force reported. Volunteers continue to clean up fuel oil in Tyumensky and Nebug. All beaches, except for the city beaches, have been cleared of oil products, and work continues there, the Tuapse administration reported, reporting on final preparations for the resort season. A total of 69 beaches, including 11 public ones, will be open. A storm washed a boom, covered in fuel oil, onto Primorsky Beach in Tuapse, visible from the Tuapse River, according to a post on the "My Tuapse" Telegram channel. Environmentalist Zhora Kavanosyan posted a video from Vesna Beach, which borders the city's central beach. As can be seen from the short recording, traces of fuel oil are visible on the rocks.

Volunteer Kristina from Novosibirsk said she participated in the fuel oil cleanup in the Tuapse District in early May.

"When I worked in Shepsi, the beach was spotless at first, but the next day it was covered in fuel oil. You never know where the sea will wash up next. One day, I went to the beach—in the village of Agoy, it's spotless—and saw a plastic bottle floating in the distance. When it washed ashore, I pulled it out of the water—it was covered in fuel oil, a thick layer of it!" Glasnaya quotes her as saying (listed as a foreign agent).

On May 1, a drone attack caused a fire at the Tuapse sea terminal. It was extinguished on May 2. This fire was the fourth in Tuapse since April 16. Earlier, on April 24, after booms broke due to rising water levels in the Tuapse River, an oil spill occurred into the Black Sea. On May 27, another attack on the seaport was reported.
