Residents of 42 settlements in Dagestan were left without electricity.

Residents in four districts of Dagestan were left without power. A short circuit in the power grid was blamed for the outage.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," residents of Dagestan regularly complain of extended power outages, heating, and water supply problems. For example, regular power outages and low voltage in the power grid are creating problems for residents of the Dagestani village of Verkhneye Kazanishche. Appeals to the authorities have been unsuccessful, the villagers complained in December 2025.

Power was cut off in 42 settlements in Dagestan, TASS reported late in the evening of May 29, citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to a publication on the Ministry of Emergency Situations' website, the emergency power outages were caused by a short circuit. "The outage zone includes four municipal districts: Akushinsky, Akhtynsky, Shamilsky, and Tsuntinsky. A total of 42 settlements are in the outage zone," the statement reads.

As a reminder, in July 2025, residents of Makhachkala complained to the "Caucasian Knot" news agency about regular power outages. According to them, the power outages sometimes last from several hours to several days. A Dagenergo employee reported that sometimes tens of thousands of people in the city are without power at the same time. "There aren't enough people to quickly fix the problems, and crews are traveling from one location to another. The dilapidated networks can't handle the load," he explained. Sergey Melikov, who then served as the head of Dagestan, acknowledged that the republic's power supply system was "operating at its limit," and the networks "weren't ready for such loads."

On March 28, at the beginning of the devastating spring flood, more than 327,000 residents of 283 settlements in Dagestan were left without power.

The floods that occurred in the North Caucasus in late March and early April were among the most devastating in recent years. Six people died in Dagestan as a result of the flooding, including three minors. Dagestan and Chechnya suffered the most from the natural disaster, according to the Caucasian Knot report "Spring Flooding in the North Caucasus - 2026".
