The arrest of the former head of the Rostov police department has been extended in connection with a bribery case.

The Pervomaisky District Court of Rostov-on-Don extended the pretrial detention of Sergei Shpak, former head of the Rostov-on-Don Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, for six months. He is accused of bribery, fraud, and illegal circulation of payment instruments. During the court hearing, he filed a motion to be sent to the special military unit.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," in mid-March 2025, a Rostov-on-Don court arrested former head of the Rostov-on-Don police department, Sergei Shpak, for two months, accused of bribery and fraud.

On April 2, the Pervomaisky District Court of Rostov-on-Don began hearing the case against Shpak and his subordinate, Sergei Egorkin. They are charged with fraud and illegal circulation of payment instruments. In addition, Shpak is accused of accepting a bribe, RIA Novosti reported.

During the hearing, the prosecutor petitioned for an extension of the defendants' pretrial detention. The court ordered Shpak to be held in custody for six months, until September 22, 2026. Yegorkin's arrest was extended for the same period.

During the court hearing, the former head of the Rostov-on-Don Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs filed a motion to be sent to the SVO, Kommersant reported.

However, the judge explained to Shpak that he could submit his own application to the selection center while in pretrial detention. If he signs a contract with the Ministry of Defense, he will be eligible to be sent to the SVO zone to participate in combat operations. The criminal case will be suspended.

Shpak is suspected of accepting a bribe (Part 5 of Article 290 of the Russian Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison): according to investigators, Sergei Shpak and his entire family were paid for trips to the Molniya Yamal complex in exchange for patronage of the Pokrovsky concern, the publication clarified.

"Kavkazsky Uzel" also reported that the Leninsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don extended the arrest of former head of the city administration Alexei Logvinenko. Investigators believe that Logvinenko, contrary to budget legislation, took out a loan from a commercial bank, which resulted in 47 million rubles in damages to the city budget.
