The Georgian Military Highway is open to all vehicles.

Restrictions on heavy-duty vehicles leaving North Ossetia via the Georgian Military Highway have been lifted.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," all types of vehicles leaving North Ossetia through the "Verkhniy Lars" checkpoint were banned on the evening of February 2. By the morning of February 4, more than 1,400 heavy-duty vehicles had accumulated in front of the checkpoint. Drivers of passenger cars were also awaiting the opening of the Georgian Military Highway.

Starting at 10:30 Moscow time on February 7, all types of vehicles are permitted to travel on the Vladikavkaz-Lars section in both directions, the North Ossetian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced today on its website.

The restrictions have been lifted "due to the possibility of ensuring the safe passage of vehicles, as well as taking into account the recommendations of the Georgian Border Police," the publication notes.

According to publications on the department's website, travel on the Georgian Military Highway was permitted on the afternoon of February 5 Passenger cars were allowed to use the road, and later that evening, heavy trucks were allowed to use it. However, at 2:40 a.m. Moscow time on February 7, the road was closed to heavy vehicles "due to the impossibility of ensuring safe passage."
