Armenian journalists demand to lift restrictions on work in parliament

During Nikol Pashinyan's speech, a group of journalists held a protest action in the Armenian Parliament. They demanded to cancel the restrictions on the work of media professionals in the legislature and provide more freedom to the media.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that media professionals had been forbidden to work in the parliament premises, where parliamentary commissions sit, and offices of the ruling party's MPs are located, as well as to use the foyer where MPs' interviews and briefings are held. More than ten Armenian journalistic and human rights organizations have criticized the restrictions imposed on journalists' work.

Human rights defenders have stressed that the above restrictions has been introduced without preliminary discussions and notification about the changes.

"Since all the methods have been exhausted, and we received no authorities' reaction ... we demand a meeting with Nikol Pashinyan," one of the protesters has stated, the "News.am" reports.

"Our rights are being violated, and the right to move inside the parliament is limited," said Ani Gevorgyan, a journalist.

She has added that if the working regime of media workers in parliament does not change, the public will receive limited information.
