Party colleagues of Azerbaijani activist Magerramov complain about bureaucracy with his release

In Baku, a court is delaying the consideration of an appeal for the conditional early relief for Agil Magerramov, a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, his party colleagues claim.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 27, 2019, the court found five activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) guilty of money laundering. One of the activists sentenced in the case was Agil Magerramov, a member of the PFPA Presidium. The activist was sentenced to four years of imprisonment. In August 2020, Agil Magerramov was placed in a punishment cell for ten days because of his protests against the actions of the hospital staff in relation to his detained party colleagues.

According to PFPA leader Ali Kerimli, “the unjustified sentence of such a competent and promising young man as Agil Magerramov points to the repressive nature of the Azerbaijani authorities’ policy.”

“Agil Magerremli, like Salekh Rustamli, was punished completely unjustly. Agil Magerremli was sentenced to four years of imprisonment, and Salekh Rustamli – seven years and three months of imprisonment. Agil Magerramov has served not only half and two thirds, but even three quarters of his sentence. Meanwhile, convicts who committed grave crimes are released ahead of schedule,” PFPA leader Ali Kerimli noted.
