Political analysts reproach Pashinyan for his indifference to Nagorno-Karabakh residents' problems

The Armenian government has withdrawn from addressing Nagorno-Karabakh problems, including the issue of transport corridor via Karvachar. In fact, all issues of life of its residents are resolved by Azerbaijan and Russia, political analysts in Yerevan believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 18, Nagorno-Karabakh activists asked peacemakers to give local residents an opportunity to travel to Armenia across the territory controlled by Azerbaijan. The opening of a Karabakh-Armenia route alternative to the Lachin Corridor could reduce tensions in the conflict zone, political analysts believe. Residents of the Martakert District need such alternative route to Armenia, taxi drivers in Stepanakert have stated.

Armenian authorities fail to come up with initiatives related to Karabakh, including the issue of opening a road via Karvachar, Stepan Danielyan, a political analyst, has noted.

"In the issue of prisoners of war (POWs), the approach is the same. The maximum they are capable of is to turn to Russia for resolving the issue," Mr Danielyan said, adding that the reason for this attitude to the problem is that Pashinyan's government is "incapable of taking serious steps."

Tevan Pogosyan, a political analyst, agreed that there are no Armenia's initiatives regarding safe transport links with Karabakh. In his opinion, Armenian authorities decide nothing; Russia and Azerbaijan agree on everything together.

Armen Vardanyan, a political analyst, did not rule out that the issue of the Karvachar road was discussed behind closed doors.

Yerevan and Stepanakert were surprisingly humble about the truce, by taking it not as a roadmap, but as an unconditional ultimatum, Naira Airumyan, a political observer, believes.
