The Council of Elders of Yerevan has approved the renaming of the figure skating school named after the Russian figure skater Irina Rodnina into the Yerevan school of figure skating and hockey. The school was renamed because of the Rodnina's participation in the march in Baku dedicated to the events in Khojaly. Her participation in the event and her statements about the tragedy in Yerevan have been treated as anti-Armenian acts.

The Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) has upheld the verdict to the activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), convicted within the case of illegal financing the party. Their defence has stated that it will seek for an acquittal.

Starting May 6, local residents organized a round-the-clock watch at a building in central Baku after the owner's attempt to evict the non-commercial movie theatre "Salaam Cinema". The authorities have promised to assess the historical value of the building, built as a Molokan prayer house, and to revise plans for demolition thereof.

Today, a court in Ryazan has refused to satisfy a petition for the conditional early relief (CER) of Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, a former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), convicted of involvement in the murder of the journalist Anna Politkovskaya, the court has reported. The defence will appeal against this judgement.
