Public organization ?Nord-Ost? functions

On April 2003 in the building of the Museum and Public Center named after A.D. Sakharov the second general meeting of the Society ?Nord-Ost?, a regional public organization, uniting people suffered from the act of terrorism in Dubrovka, took place.

It is stated that the Society unites those suffered in Moscow in October 2002 and invites victims of other acts of terrorism and ?antiterrorist operations? of the recent years in Russian towns to enter the organization for joint advocacy of interests.

The Charter of the Society was unanimously accepted at the meeting. The Coordinating Board became a constantly acting organ. Irina Hakamada, Tatyana and Sergey Karpovs, Pavel Finogenov, Dmitry Milovidov, Alexander Shalnov entered the Board.

Some of the charter aims of the Society are:
- attraction of public attention to the state of victims of the acts of terrorism;
- legal initiatives in the field of advocacy of victims? interests;
- informational and legal assistance to the victims;
- attraction of social and material assistance to the victims;
- conducting of independent investigation of all circumstances of the tragedy on Melnikov Street;
- assistance to the official organs in investigation conducting;
- promulgation of all circumstances around ?Nord-Ost?.

The questions of placing a memorial plate by the building of the Theatre Center in Dubrovka with the names of the dead were discussed. It was noted that Moscow authorities does not promote it.

It was reported at the meeting that beginning from May 2003 the station attached to the Municipal Clinical Hospital No. 13 (11 Velozavodskaya Street) will begin to function. There victims will be able to get individual consultation and assistance in obtaining all kinds of help: psychological, medical, by medical supplies, and treatment: inpatient, outpatient, spa treatment (Podmoskovye, Gelendzhik, Sochi).
