SFD regions hold actions in memory of victims of political repressions

For the first time on October 30, officials took part in the events commemorating victims of political repressions, held in the regions of the South Federal District (SFD). The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it at the secretariats of the Human Rights Society "Memorial" in Nalchik and Astrakhan.

In Nalchik on October 29 a book was presented - a photo chronicle of the beginning of Circassian aristocracy "Two Centuries Reflected in Them". A charitable party for victims of political repressions was held by the Association of Victims of Political Repressions of Kabardino-Balkaria.

On the eve of the Memory Day, the Association paid a small monetary remuneration to the repressed persons. The problem is still to publish the Memory Book in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR). The "Memorial" believes that the issue should be addressed by the government.

In Astrakhan, the rally at the monument to repressed person started at midday. Then, its participants will make their way to Kamyzyak village, where wreaths will be laid down on the tombs of the victims of repressions. Then, the commemoration dinner will be organized. All the actions have been coordinated with the regional authorities; it is expected that they will be attended by officials from the Ministry of Social Protection of the Astrakhan Region, as the Astrakhan Regional Society "Memorial" has reported.

Today, the Krasnodar "Memorial" will open exhibitions of books "1937" and "Before Your Birth" and hold a roundtable on the topic "Can a tyrant of the 20th century be a hero of the 21st century?" The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by Victor Gaskevich, member of the Board of the "Memorial". Local prosecutors and the chairman of the commission of the Krasnodar Territory for realization of the rights of the victims of political repressions were invited to the roundtable.

Today in the midday, the Regional Public Organization of Victims of Political Repressions "Moscow Memorial" has held an action and laid wreaths to the Solovki Moulder in Moscow.
