Zviad Gamsakhurdia's son released on bail in Georgia

The son of the first President of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia and oppositional politician Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, who had been arrested on suspicion of espionage for Russia and attempt of coup d'etat, is now at large on bail worth 20,000 laris (over 14,000 US dollars).

Earlier it was informed that Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, detained on September 3r in Tbilisi Airport, would spend, under decision of the Tbilisi City Court of September 5, two months in pre-trial custody.

The Georgian TV Company "Imedi" reported on October 28 that the bail was deposited by Manana Gamsakhurdia-Archvadze after the Tbilisi Appeal Court had replaced, on September 18, the previous decision of the Tbilisi City Court about two-month pre-trial custody dated September 5, for release on bail.

Tsotne Gamsakhurdia would not plead guilty.

The RIA "Novosti" reports, with reference to unofficial sources in the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia that the police keeps in custody a number of former reservists, who had used, during the warfare in Tskhinvali, their cellular telephones for informing Russian militaries about transfer of Georgian military units.

The official authorities of Georgia refuse to confirm this information.

Koba Kilasoniya, head of the administration of the Senak District of Georgia, has stated that one of the reservists was indeed detained, but not for espionage - for drug storage. As to the second "arrested person", he had not been detained by the police, reports "Our Abkhazia".
