A resident of Krymsk was convicted for preparing an explosion at an electric grid company.

The military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced resident of Krymsk, Pyotr Medvedev, to a long prison term, finding him guilty of preparing an explosion at the building of "Kuban Electric Networks" on the orders of Ukrainian special services.

Pyotr Medvedev was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment with a fine of 300,000 rubles. He will spend the first four years in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime colony. The mobile phone used in the commission of the crimes was confiscated for state revenue. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed in the Military Appellate Court.

According to the prosecution's version, Medvedev learned in Krasnodar from an acquaintance that he was in contact with a representative of the Security Service of Ukraine; the criminal case against this acquaintance has been separated into a separate proceeding. Medvedev also expressed a willingness to cooperate with Ukrainian special services for money.

On April 12, 2025, while in Moscow, he contacted a representative of the SBU and expressed his readiness to assist Ukraine. On the same day, he received an assignment – to retrieve explosives, detonators, and other items from a stash in Novorossiysk for a reward, in order to blow up the building of "Kuban Electric Networks".

On April 13, 2025, Medvedev arrived from Moscow to Krasnodar Krai and intended to proceed to the site of the planting, but was detained, reported the Southern District Military Court on its Telegram channel.

For the preparation of the explosion, he obtained information about the location of the stash, searched for information about the target, and also prepared electronic messages and notes with the necessary coordinates. He was unable to carry out his intent: the homemade explosive device was discovered and seized by law enforcement before the accused could obtain it, the Krasnodar Krai prosecutor's office added. The investigation was conducted by the regional FSB.

The court and the prosecutor's office cite different articles of accusation: according to the prosecutor's report, the accused was charged with attempted treason, preparation for a terrorist act without qualifying features, and preparation for the illegal turnover of explosives, but he was sentenced for preparation for a terrorist act that resulted in intentional harm to a person 1 , preparation for the illegal turnover of explosives 2 and completed state treason 3 . However, neither agency reports any casualties, and according to both sources, the explosion did not occur.

Neither the court nor the prosecutor's office clarifies whether Medvedev admitted his guilt. Official reports do not specify his occupation or the amount of the promised reward; it is also not disclosed how he made contact with the SBU representative.

The court does not mention the age and residence of the convicted person, while the prosecutor's office does not disclose his name. The prosecutor's office describes Medvedev as a 23-year-old resident of Krymsk; according to the registry of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring, he was born in Krymsk on November 11, 2003, meaning he was 22 years old at the time of sentencing. Data marked with an asterisk, indicating involvement in terrorism, was added to the list on January 14, 2026.

"Caucasian Knot" currently has no comments from Medvedev or his lawyer regarding plans to appeal the sentence.

Before his arrest on April 17, 2025, Pyotr Medvedev was engaged in the redemption of seized property at auctions. "According to Medvedev himself, he was accused of allegedly wanting to disrupt a meeting between Putin and Trump," the human rights project Enbv.org states.
