An expert explained the detention of Belkhoroev's body and his companions.

The security forces that took the body of Ilyas Belkhoroev from the airport in Mineralnye Vody may demand its identification, but they are obliged to hand over the remains to the deceased's relatives for burial.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the great-grandson of the founder of the Batalkhadzhin brotherhood, Ilyas Belkhoroev, died in Poland, and his relatives were preparing to bury him in Ingushetia; however, the security forces detained two men at the Mineralnye Vody airport who came for the body. Sources reported that the deceased's body is also with the security forces.

The seizure of Ilyas Belkhoroev's body by the security forces may be explained by the need to identify his identity: this is a procedurally necessary step, as Belkhoroev was declared wanted and was involved in criminal cases in Russia, explained lawyer Timofey Shirokov to "Caucasian Knot".

"Who knows whose body they sent there, it needs to be checked," he explained the logic of the law enforcement officers.

At the same time, the prohibition on handing over the bodies of alleged militants to their families does not apply to Belkhoroev, who died abroad, so relatives have the right to demand the body of the suspect for burial.

"By law, a body is not handed over only if a person died directly while committing or preventing the commission of a terrorist act, that is, if he was killed by the security forces. The prohibition on burial by relatives does not apply to suspects who were wanted or even already convicted under terrorist articles, if they were not killed at the time of the terrorist act. So formally, they must hand over his body after the necessary procedures: identification, identification, forensic examinations," Shirokov explained.

Ilyas Belkhoroev's great-grandfather, Batal-Khadji Belkhoroev, was an Ingush sheikh, the founder of one of the Kadirite branches (vird), a follower of Sheikh Kunta-Khadji, as reported in a published reference on "Caucasian Knot" titled "Batal-Khadji and his followers".
