Dagestan energy workers have discovered 52 illegal mining farms since the beginning of the year, and 968 cryptocurrency mining devices have been seized.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in December 2024, the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov signed an appeal to the government of Russia requesting a ban on cryptocurrency mining in the republic due to the increasing load on the power grid. According to the cabinet's resolution, from 2025 until March 15, 2031, a complete ban on mining has been introduced, including in Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, and Chechnya.

Since the beginning of the year, the operation of 52 illegal mining farms has been stopped in Dagestan, and five criminal cases have been initiated, reports "Kommersant" on August 14, citing the press service of "Rosseti North Caucasus" - "Dагэнерго".

According to energy workers, the volume of stolen electricity has reached about 2.7 million kWh, and during inspections, 968 units of cryptocurrency mining equipment have been seized.

The organization also reported that in total across the republic, 899 cases of unaccounted electricity consumption have been identified since the beginning of the year, with the volume of illegally consumed energy exceeding 20.1 million kWh. The damage is estimated at more than 129 million rubles.
