Three people have been charged two years later in the case of the attack on Nika Melia.

An attack was carried out on one of the leaders of the opposition Georgian party "Akhal" Nika Melia in August 2024 during the election campaign. Two years after the incident, charges were brought against the man who hit Melia and two of the politician's associates who beat the man.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in 2024 the "Association of Young Lawyers of Georgia" reported at least nine cases of violence during the election campaign. One such case occurred in August when an attack was carried out in Samtredia on one of the leaders of the "Akhal" party, Nika Melia. At the same time, law enforcement agencies informed NGOs that the attacker had not been identified.

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged three individuals with violence committed during the election campaign in the Samtredia region, writes "Georgia-online" on August 9.

According to the agency, in August 2024, during the opening of the district organization office of the "Akhal" party in Samtredia, Sulkhan-Saba Nikoleishvili hit Nika Melia on the head. In turn, Melia's companions Gabriel Kobaidze and Tsotne Mirtchulava used physical violence against Nikoleishvili.

All three have been charged under part 1 of article 162 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (violence during election campaign events), which provides for up to two years of imprisonment.
