Tsarukyan's son-in-law has been detained in a contract killing case.

Security forces detained former parliament deputy Argam Abramyan - the son of ex-Prime Minister Ovik Abramyan and the son-in-law of the leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party, Gagik Tsarukyan. Abramyan is suspected of organizing a murder.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", businessman and leader of the opposition party "Prosperous Armenia" Gagik Tsarukyan was suspected of tax evasion involving the Ararat brandy factory. The defense called the case absurd, as Tsarukyan has transferred all his businesses to management since 2003, when he was elected to the National Assembly. On August 6, a new charge was brought against Tsarukyan under articles on extortion and legalization of property obtained by criminal means. Two executives of Tsarukyan's enterprises have been arrested for two months.

The son of former Prime Minister of Armenia Ovik Abramyan, former parliament deputy Argam Abramyan, was detained in a contract killing case, reports Armenia Today citing the Investigative Committee. Abramyan is the son-in-law of the leader of the opposition party "Prosperous Armenia" Gagik Tsarukyan.

According to the investigation, he, along with the former head of the Artashat community, is accused of organizing the murder of pastor S. V. of the "Evangelical Christians" organization, committed on April 30, 2023, near a residential building on Mashtots Avenue in Yerevan. The Investigative Committee stated that Abramyan suspected his wife of having a personal relationship with the pastor, as well as of transferring large sums of money to him. The investigation believes that out of revenge, he ordered his bodyguard G. K. to carry out the murder, who shot the pastor. In April 2024, the criminal case against the alleged perpetrator on charges of murder and illegal arms trafficking was sent to court. Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against Abramyan for inciting to commit a contract killing. On August 8, employees of the National Security Service detained him to present him to the court with a request for a preventive measure in the form of arrest.

The detention of Argam Abramyan was preceded by criminal prosecutions against his father - former Prime Minister Ovik Abramyan - and his father-in-law, Gagik Tsarukyan, the publication writes.

Former Prime Minister of Armenia Ovik Abramyan was detained on charges of money laundering, abuse of power, and illegal entrepreneurship; he has been placed under house arrest.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that Tsarukyan's party "Prosperous Armenia", along with other opposition political parties, previously issued a statement about the illegitimacy of the government and plans to seek its removal.
