A resident of Orenburg was convicted for preparing an assassination attempt on a military officer in Rostov-on-Don.

The military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Aman Kulsitov to a long term, finding him guilty of preparing an explosion with the intent to kill the commander of a military unit.

Kulsitov was charged with attempting a terrorist act (subparagraph "b" of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of Russia), associated with treason (Article 275) and illegal trafficking of explosives by an organized group (part 4 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code). The latter article provides for a prison term of eight to 12 years; for attempting a terrorist act, the maximum possible term under the law is half of the upper limit, that is, 10 years, while treason is punishable by 12 to 20 years in prison.

According to the prosecution's version, the terrorist act aimed at killing one of the commanders of the Russian military unit was planned in 2023 by unknown employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. On July 1, 2023, they acquired explosives and an explosive device, placing them in a certain cache, the press service of the Southern District Military Court reported today.

The executor of the task, as the prosecution claims, was Kulsitov, who was in Orenburg on September 10, 2023. He was assigned to come to Rostov-on-Don, rent accommodation there, and monitor the military officer designated as the target for the explosion. The defendant fulfilled this task, according to the court's website.

On October 30 of the same year, Aman Kulsitov arrived at the cache and took the bomb with explosives from it, which by that time had been replaced by security forces with dummies. After that, he was detained.

The court sentenced Kulsitov to 20 years in a strict regime, with the first five years to be served in prison. In addition, he was fined 500,000 rubles.

The court's statement does not specify whether Aman Kulsitov agreed with the charges. The "Caucasian Knot" currently has no comments from the convicted person or his lawyer regarding plans to appeal the verdict.

Kulsitov is a native of Orenburg, and at the time of his detention in the fall of 2023, he had just turned 21 years old. The young man's data was entered into the register of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring in November 2024, according to data from a Telegram bot tracking updates to the list.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in early July, the FSB reported the arrest of two individuals suspected of preparing a terrorist act against a high-ranking officer of the Ministry of Defense. One of the suspects was detained in the Krasnodar Territory, while the other, a native of the Rostov region, was arrested in Moscow.
