Two candidates have been nominated for the presidency of South Ossetia.

The acting president of South Ossetia, Marat Kambolov, has already submitted documents to the Central Election Commission, after which he secured support from Putin. The party "Iry Farn" nominated Khoch Chochiev as a presidential candidate. Another meeting to nominate a presidential candidate did not take place.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", after a meeting with Vladimir Putin on June 22, Alan Gagloev was appointed as his advisor and announced his resignation as president of South Ossetia. The head of the republic's government, Marat Kambolov, has been appointed as the acting president of South Ossetia. Early presidential elections in South Ossetia are scheduled for September 18. During Gagloev's presidency, the degradation of political and social institutions continued in South Ossetia, and the outflow of the population from the republic reached such proportions that a new presidential candidate was sent from outside, analysts interviewed by "Caucasian Knot" stated.

The acting president of South Ossetia, Marat Kambolov, became the first candidate for the presidency of South Ossetia, his documents have been submitted to the Central Election Commission for nomination to the position of president of South Ossetia, reported IA "Res".

After submitting the documents, Kambolov met with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

"I want to wish you success in the upcoming electoral events in South Ossetia and express hope that the residents of the republic will support you, and you, in turn, will justify their trust. On our part, we will do everything to support you," Putin's words are quoted by Kremlin.ru.

At the congress in Tskhinval on July 18, the leader of the "Iry Farn" party, Khoch Chochiev, was nominated as a candidate for the presidency of South Ossetia, IA "Res" reported.

On July 19, a meeting of the initiative group to nominate presidential candidate Oleg Kozaev was planned, but it was postponed to July 25.

Kozaev participated in the presidential race in 2012, but the Central Election Commission denied him registration – he did not pass the linguistic exam. In 2024, he was elected as a deputy of parliament from a single-mandate electoral district.
