Voting in the Knesset of Israel on the bill recognizing the genocide of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey has been suspended against the backdrop of tensions in the Middle East.

After the Israeli government unanimously supported the initiative to recognize the genocide of Armenians, the document was to be submitted to parliament for consideration, but the vote was postponed against the backdrop of the situation in the region. Relations between Israel and Turkey have recently deteriorated due to hostilities in the Gaza Strip and sharp statements by Turkish President Erdogan towards Israel.

The initiative to recognize the genocide of Armenians was presented in the government by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, who called the resolution a matter of historical justice; Turkey, in turn, stated that the initiative is politically motivated. Azerbaijan also criticized the Israeli government's decision.

At the end of the week, the Knesset will go on summer vacation and will not resume work until the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 27.

Official Ankara has repeatedly expressed extremely negative views regarding the facts of the genocide of the Armenian people in the past, denying all accusations made by the Armenian side. International recognition of the genocide of Armenians cannot change the Turkish authorities' attitude towards the mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, Armenian scholars and politicians surveyed by "Caucasian Knot" stated earlier.
