Baibulatov's defense considered the extension of the arrest unlawful.

The former head of the traffic police of the Khasavyurt district, Ibrahim Baibulatov, has had his arrest extended in a bribery case, while two other traffic police officers accused of bribery and extortion remain under house arrest. No investigative actions are being conducted, and the extension of the arrest contradicts the position of the Supreme Court, the defense stated.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the head of the traffic police of the Khasavyurt district, Ibrahim Baibulatov, recently suspended from his position, has been arrested for three months on charges of receiving a bribe. However, there is no evidence of money being transferred either to Baibulatov personally or to any of the traffic police officers, the defense stated.

Recently, Ibrahim Baibulatov's detention has been extended until August 5, his lawyer Aydamir Ismailov reported. In his opinion, the court and the investigation are showing bias.

"The main problem is the selective approach of the Khasavyurt City Court, which chose house arrest for two other traffic police officers under the same article, but chose detention for Baibulatov without legal grounds," Ismailov said.

Baibulatov is being prosecuted in a separate case, although the events are practically the same. According to the lawyer, the guilt of the two officers in the parallel case can be considered proven.

"They also admit their guilt, and their house arrests are being extended, while Baibulatov is sent to a pre-trial detention center. Although there is no evidence of involvement, apart from contradictory testimonies from two witnesses, where one says he allegedly handed money to the other witness, and the other says he did not see any money," Ismailov explained.

The lawyer believes that the decision to extend the preventive measure contradicts the legal grounds for its selection.

"Considering that Baibulatov has the same positive characteristics, that he lives at his place of residence, has a wife and three minor children dependent on him, and has no prior convictions. However, for some reason, an alternative preventive measure is not being applied, despite the fact that the Supreme Court of Russia in its Plenary Resolution No. 41 explicitly prohibits the extension of preventive measures in the form of detention when it is justified only by the need for further investigative actions. Moreover, no investigative actions have been conducted since May 10," Ismailov lamented.
