A soldier from the Rostov region was killed in the SVO zone.

Vitaly Gorunov from the Salsky District was killed in combat. Since the beginning of the Russian operation in Ukraine, authorities have named at least 911 killed Don military personnel there.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", as of June 28, authorities and security forces officially recognized at least 910 military personnel from the Rostov region as killed in the military operation in Ukraine.

The administration of the Salsky District announced in a Telegram channel the opening of a memorial plaque in the school of the village of Novy Yegorlyk for graduate Vitaly Gorunov, who was killed in the military operation.

Guards Senior Sergeant Gorunov served his conscription in the Baltic Fleet, and a few years later, in 2015, signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense. He participated in combat operations in the Syrian Arab Republic. Gorunov was killed on February 9, 2026, in the Zaporizhzhia region. He was 38 years old. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage.

Thus, at least 911 fighters from the Rostov region have been officially recognized as killed on the Ukrainian front. "Caucasian Knot" maintains a named list of natives from the North Caucasus Federal District and Southern Federal District who were killed in the military operation. The list is compiled based on data officially announced by representatives of the authorities and security agencies, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "SVO Statistics: Losses in Southern Russia are Rising".

At the end of June, the administration of the Salsky District reported that Oleg Koshevoy, Dmitry Yremenko, Alexey Kovalevsky, and six other military personnel were killed in Ukraine.
