A resident of Dagestan was convicted for taking hostages in a store.

The Southern District Military Court sentenced Gashim Kardashov to 10 years in a penal colony for taking his ex-wife and her sister hostage in a store in Dagestan in August 2025.

According to the investigation, the crime was motivated by a property dispute. Kardashov attempted to force authorities to act in his favor due to disagreement with a court decision regarding eviction.

On August 8, 2025, Kardashov, armed with a double-barreled firearm, entered a store in Dagestan, where he struck his ex-wife at least three times with the butt of the gun to the head and torso, and her sister with multiple blows to various parts of her body, the court's press service reported today on its page on "VKontakte."

Kardashov also alternately aimed the gun at his wife and her sister, locked the entrance doors, and forbade them from leaving the premises. He then called the emergency service number "112" and informed the operator about the hostage situation. He also stated that he was armed and demanded the arrival of the prosecutor and the head of Dagestan as a condition for their release.

After the security forces arrived, Kardashov confirmed his demands and, despite being asked to surrender, did not voluntarily cease his criminal actions and did not release the hostages. As a result of the operation, the hostages were freed.

According to the court's verdict, the defendant was found guilty of taking hostages 1 and was sentenced to 10 years in a strict regime correctional colony, with the first two years to be served in prison.

According to the criminal case card on the court's website, Kardashov's case was submitted for consideration on April 21, and the verdict was delivered today.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the court sentenced 54-year-old resident of Vladikavkaz Gavril Zoloyev to nine years in a colony, finding him guilty of taking hostages in a local store, including a pregnant woman and children.
