Two political scientists have been accused of publicly calling for a coup in Armenia.

Criminal cases have been opened in Armenia against Alen Ghevondyan and Tigran Vardanyan, both accused of publicly calling for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order. Ghevondyan has been detained, and Vardanyan is wanted.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," today, supporters of the "Prosperous Armenia" party gathered outside the Central Election Commission building, demanding a fair recount. The building is surrounded by a large police presence. The Central Election Commission called for the final election results to be announced.

Tigran Vardanyan and Alen Ghevondyan posted public calls on their Facebook pages* aimed at seizing power and violently overthrowing the constitutional order, the Investigative Committee of Armenia reported today.

Two criminal cases have been opened, in which Vardanyan and Ghevondyan are being prosecuted under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Armenian Criminal Code. Vardanyan has been placed under arrest and is wanted, while Ghevondyan has been detained; the court will determine his pretrial detention. The preliminary investigation of the criminal cases is ongoing.

The "Caucasian Knot" has not yet received comments from Tigran Vardanyan, Alen Ghevondyan, or their lawyers regarding the criminal prosecution.

The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that an Armenian court arrested four Strong Armenia candidates on charges of voter bribery and large-scale money laundering.

The parliamentary elections effectively became a referendum on the future of the current government and Armenia's foreign policy. The "Caucasian Knot" published a report titled "2026 Elections to the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia".
