A court in Yoshkar-Ola placed journalist Alexei Seregin* in pretrial detention, who was detained the day before for a comment about Dzhokhar Dudayev.

The Yoshkar-Ola City Court ordered the placement of journalist Alexei Seregin* in pretrial detention, Mediazona* reports, citing A source familiar with the case.

The measure of restraint was chosen for the justification of terrorism case (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code). The defense plans to appeal the measure of restraint.

Dzhokhar Dudayev was a major general in the Air Force who led the movement for Chechnya's secession from the Soviet Union and served as the supreme commander-in-chief during the First Chechen War. He was killed on April 22, 1996, near the village of Gekhi-Chu. According to one version, when Dudayev contacted State Duma deputy K.N. Borovoy, his satellite phone's signal was detected, which allowed Russian aircraft to launch a targeted homing missile, according to the biographical note of "Caucasian Knot" about Dzhokhar Dudayev.
