The addition of an additional layer of clean sand on Anapa's beaches damaged by fuel oil has allowed for the approval of 15 beaches in Anapa for vacationers, with another 29 beaches undergoing assessment, Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev announced today at a meeting of the Coordination Commission for the Elimination of the Consequences of the Emergency in the Kerch Strait.

According to the official, backfill work is ongoing, while monitoring of the Black Sea and the coast of the Krasnodar Krai is underway. Since the beginning of the work, more than 3,600 kilometers of coastline have been cleaned, including secondary cleanups, and approximately 185,300 tons of contaminated sand and soil have been removed. "All sand and soil removed for disposal has been neutralized or recycled," the Russian government press service quoted Savelyev as saying on its website.

According to the Kuban task force, a 3.5-kilometer stretch from the Medical Beach to the Bimlyuk Children's Sanatorium in Anapa has also been removed from the danger zone. The corresponding decree was signed by Mayor Svetlana Maslova on May 29.
