A Rostov-on-Don resident has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for treason.

The Southern District Military Court found Rostov-on-Don resident Andrei Shilyaev guilty of treason and sentenced him to 21 years in prison. According to the investigation and the court, he took and hid explosive devices handed over by a representative of a banned extremist Ukrainian organization.

According to the investigation, in February 2024, Shilyaev contacted a member of a banned extremist Ukrainian organization and indicated his willingness to assist. He then agreed to take and hide the explosives and devices from their hiding place. On April 16, he took explosives and devices and hid them in a new location, after which he was detained by law enforcement, Interfax reports, citing the court's press service. Shilyaev was found guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization and treason. The court sentenced him to 21 years in a maximum-security penal colony. Andrei Shilyaev, 47, was born in Izhevsk, according to his entry in the Rosfinmonitoring register of terrorists and extremists. According to a bot tracking updates to this list, Shilyaev's information, marked as a terrorist, was added on September 3, 2024.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Gorlovka resident Vladislav Gamzin to 17 years in prison, finding him guilty of treason and calls for terrorist activity.
