The cable car at the Elbrus resort has been suspended.

One of the cable cars at the Elbrus ski resort in Kabardino-Balkaria has been closed due to deteriorating weather conditions.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on May 15 and 16, the cable cars at the Elbrus resort were shut down for unscheduled maintenance. On May 17, they resumed operation. On the morning of May 25, the resort administration announced that two ski slopes were closed to tourists.

The Mir-Garabashi cable car at the Elbrus resort was closed this afternoon due to weather conditions, the resort administration announced on its official Telegram channel.

According to the administration, the cable car was closed due to strong winds, with speeds exceeding 15 meters per second.

The Mir-Garabashi cable car runs at an altitude of 3,500-3,847 meters above sea level. Of the five cable cars operating at Elbrus, it has the highest altitude. The remaining four cableways (Azau-Krugozor, Krugozor-Mir, Mir-2-Bashtala, and Bashtala-Chiran) continued to operate.

In September 2025, a cableway cable break on Mount Elbrus killed three people and injured several others. The director and chief engineer of the cableway company were detained and arrested in connection with the deaths. In January, the case was referred to court.

The prosecutor's office also filed lawsuits on behalf of the sons of the two deceased men. One of the victims demanded 10 million rubles in compensation for the death of his father, the other - 15 million rubles.

Elbrus Region is a winter resort in Kabardino-Balkaria, which is popular among fans of alpine skiing, freeriding, snowboarding, and other extreme sports.
