The first stage of a major prisoner exchange took place today with Ukraine. Chechen State Duma Deputy Shamsail Saraliev reported that 205 prisoners of war returned to Russia.

A month earlier, on February 5, 157 military personnel and three civilians were returned to Russia during the first prisoner exchange of 2026. On April 24, Chechen State Duma Deputy Shamsail Saraliev announced another prisoner of war exchange between Russia and Ukraine, specially thanking Ramzan Kadyrov. He indicated that the Ukrainian participants in the exchange were captured by Akhmat fighters.

During today's exchange, 205 servicemen from various regions returned to Russia from Ukrainian captivity, and 205 Ukrainian prisoners were returned to Ukraine, Shamsail Saraliev reported on his Telegram channel.

The Russian soldiers are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving the necessary psychological and medical care. They will subsequently be transported to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation.
