A teenager was arrested in Nalchik for possessing a grenade.

Security forces seized a combat grenade from a minor resident of Nalchik. The court remanded the suspect to pretrial detention.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," on January 17, the FSB and the Investigative Committee of Russia announced the arrest of a 16-year-old resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, accused of plotting an attack on police officers in Nalchik on orders from a representative of a terrorist organization. In recent years, numerous minors have been charged with terrorism-related offenses, human rights activists and a lawyer indicated.

A court in Nalchik has arrested a local minor suspected of illegally acquiring and possessing an explosive device. The teenager, born in 2009, was charged, the Investigative Committee for Kabardino-Balkaria reported on May 13.

A case under the article on illegal trafficking of explosive devices (Part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Russian Criminal Code carries a prison sentence of six to eight years) was initiated by officers of the republic's FSB and Center "E". According to the investigation, the young man illegally acquired an explosive device in April 2026 and stored it at his home.

"At the request of the investigator, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the suspect," the agency said in a statement. It did not specify the length of the teenager's arrest or the purpose for which he acquired the ammunition, but noted only that "investigative actions" in the case are ongoing.

Law enforcement officers seized a combat grenade from a private home in Nalchik where the 17-year-old lived, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Kabardino-Balkaria clarified.

"An explosive device was found, which experts classified as an F-1 hand-held fragmentation grenade, ready for use," Interfax-Yug quotes the agency as saying.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in September 2025, a teenager born in 2008 was arrested, whom security forces believe to be the second participant in the July attack on a traffic police unit in Nalchik. On July 4, at the corner of Nogmova Street and Lenin Avenue in Nalchik, a traffic police unit stopped a taxi that ran a red light; a young man jumped out of the car with a knife in his hand and attacked one of the officers. Sources reported that one attacker was shot dead, and the second escaped. Kabardino-Balkaria Governor Kazbek Kokov confirmed that the attacker was killed, but gave no information about the second attacker.

The 27-year-old police lieutenant, wounded in the attack, was taken to the Republican Clinical Hospital. According to doctors, he suffered approximately 12 stab wounds. At the hospital, he underwent emergency surgery.
