Visangiriyev's relatives managed to meet him in the penal colony.

Sai-Akhmed Visangiriyev, a native of Chechnya who reported torture and threats in a penal colony in the Vladimir region, was allowed to meet with his family for an extended visit.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," in July, Chechen Human Rights Commissioner Mansur Soltayev reported on the transfer of Said-Akhmed Visangiriyev from a penal colony in the Vladimir region, after relatives alleged cruel treatment. Immediately after the transfer, Visangiriyev was placed in a punishment cell, and then in a single cell-type facility for six months. According to his lawyer, Visangiriyev was subjected to torture and threats in a penal colony in the Vladimir region and is being pressured to retract his statements.

The situation of Said-Akhmed Visangiriyev, who previously reported pressure and torture in the penal colony, has improved. He has been granted extended visits with his family, his brother, Said-Magomed Visangiriyev, told the Caucasian Knot.

According to his brother, Visangiriyev is being held in Penal Colony No. 7 in the Vladimir region. "He's been on a visit for three days, until Thursday (May 7). Our mother, Akhmed's wife, and his daughter are visiting him," the relative said.

Sayd-Magomed noted that Said-Akhmed's conditions are "more or less normal" and that he has no new complaints. However, he does not know whether the prison has conducted any investigations into the previously filed complaints.

"My brother's health is currently stable. He was sent medications, and he received them. Compared to before, his health has improved. I don't know anything about any investigations," Said-Magomed Visangiriyev said.

Visangiriyev's situation in the prison has indeed improved, but he is still being denied transfer to his home region to continue serving his sentence, according to a human rights activist familiar with the prisoner's situation.

“There was a trial in Kovrov in February. The Federal Penitentiary Service refused to transfer us to our home region, and we appealed this refusal in court, but this district court also refused. Now we've appealed this refusal in the regional court,” the human rights activist explained to the Caucasian Knot.

The Caucasian Knot also reported that a criminal case has been opened against Said-Akhmed Visangiriyev for battery due to a conflict with another prisoner who provoked him. The case was first reported in August 2025, although the conflict occurred before the Chechen native reported being tortured.
