Oil spills near Tuapse did not affect plans for the holiday season.

The consequences of the drone attacks on Tuapse, including oil pollution of the sea and beaches, have not affected resorts near the city, a tourism industry representative stated. Authorities reported the cleanup of "local emissions" on the coast.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," by May 4, according to Kuban authorities, more than 17,000 cubic meters of fuel oil, contaminated soil, and water-oil mixture had been collected in Tuapse, including more than 1,800 cubic meters in the past 24 hours. Today, authorities reported that more than 18,500 cubic meters of oil-contaminated soil had been removed from the coast in Tuapse.

The consequences of the drone attacks on Tuapse and the pollution of the sea by oil products from the local oil refinery will not disrupt the start of the tourist season in the region, as "the resorts have not been harmed," said Dmitry Bogdanov, vice president of the National Union of Hospitality Industry.

“The tourist season in the Tuapse District usually begins in early June, and there is hope that this year it will start on schedule (...) If everything is put in order in May and early June and the first vacationers see improvements, confidence in the region will quickly recover,” Kuban24 TV channel quotes Bogdanov as saying.

According to Bogdanov, the consequences of the oil spill are being “eliminated in the city center,” while virtually all tourist attractions—recreation centers and hotels—are located beyond the Agoysky and Novomikhaylovsky passes. He estimated that only a small percentage of tourists—“preliminary estimates suggest about 5-7%”—may cancel their planned trips to resorts near Tuapse.

The Krasnodar Krai task force, in turn, reported that the cleanup of oil products has already been completed at four of the six “local sites” where oil spills were recorded. Officials also described the emissions themselves as "local," estimating that the contaminated areas extend no more than 300 meters.

"Work has been completed in the villages of Novomikhaylovsky, Yuzhny, and Vesna. Kuban-SPAS personnel have completed cleanup there and have already removed the contaminated soil. In the village of Nebug, cleanup has also been completed, and the bagged contaminated soil is still being removed," the official Telegram channel reported.

Work continues outside Tuapse in the village of Tyumensky and in the village of Olginka, involving more than 700 people. "Caucasian Knot" is unable to verify the government's information regarding the number of people involved in the oil spill response.

On May 1, a fire broke out at the Tuapse sea terminal after a drone attack. It was extinguished on May 2. This fire is the fourth in Tuapse since April 16. Earlier, on April 24, after booms broke due to rising water levels in the Tuapse River, oil products spilled into the Black Sea.
