The Kremlin supported Shchukin's candidacy for the post of head of Dagestan.

At a meeting with Putin, the head of the Republic's Supreme Court, Fyodor Shchukin, was nominated for the post of head of Dagestan, and the plenipotentiary representative to the North Caucasus Federal District, Magomed Ramazanov, was nominated for the post of head of government. Melikov will serve in his capacity until the president issues a decree on his resignation.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," Dagestan's head, Sergei Melikov, is completing his tenure in the republic and is moving to another position, Putin announced.

At a meeting with representatives of Dagestan, Vladimir Putin supported the candidacy of the head of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, Fyodor Shchukin, for the post of head of the region. The president also supported the candidacy of Magomed Ramazanov, the current deputy presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, for the post of prime minister of the republic, TASS reports.

These names were mentioned by Zaur Askenderov, the speaker of the Dagestani parliament, who expressed the opinion that "such a tandem would be successful," Interfax reports.

Putin agreed with these candidates. He stated that the official has proven himself to be a person who works "with principles, but without conflict." "The most important thing here is that the republic is headed by a person who is 'a' capable of solving real problems, 'b' knows what and how to do things based on what has been done so far, and 'c'—this is probably the most important thing: enjoys the people's respect and trust," Putin was quoted as saying in the statement.

"Fyodor Alekseyevich (Shchukin), first of all, must continue what has been done so far. And not only by Sergei Alimovich (Melikov), but also by other leaders. He will have to meet the requirements imposed by those who bring someone to such a high position," RIA Novosti quoted Putin as saying.

Putin promised to closely monitor the work of Dagestan's new leadership. According to him, the work of the new regional leadership will be assessed by the assembly deputies and the republic's parliament, RIA Novosti reports.

"And I'm in Moscow, here I will closely monitor how the new team works," Putin concluded.

Melikov will continue to serve as acting head of Dagestan until Putin issues a decree, the Dagestan administration announced today on its Telegram channel.
