A fire from a burning oil refinery in Tuapse has spread to an apartment building, where residents have already been evacuated. Classes in city schools and kindergartens have been canceled for the second day in a row.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on April 28, a drone attack caused a fire at the Tuapse oil refinery. 58 people were evacuated from the area surrounding the refinery, 26 of whom were transferred to a temporary hotel accommodation. Today, authorities reported the fire contained.

Last night, a fire at an oil refinery spread to a two-story apartment building, the Kuban emergency response center reported today on its Telegram channel.

"There were no residents in the building at the time of the emergency – they were evacuated in advance, on the morning of April 28. The fire in the residential building spread over an area of ​​150 square meters. It was completely extinguished at 4:40 [Moscow time]," the publication states.

All those who needed it were placed in Hotels

According to current reports, 60 people, including nine children, have been evacuated from homes located near the oil refinery. "The previous evening, everyone who needed it was placed in hotels in Tuapse," regional authorities explained.

Classes at Tuapse schools and kindergartens canceled again

Schools and supplementary education institutions in Tuapse are not accepting students today for safety reasons, Sergei Boyko, head of the district, announced on his Telegram channel.

"The Cadet Corps is operating with necessary safety measures and minimizing children's time outdoors. Tomorrow, parents will pick up the children for the May holidays," he wrote.

Of the five kindergartens, two – No. 22 and 25 – are temporarily closed, the official added. "The rest are on standby. Decisions on future operations will be made based on the operational situation," the publication states.

As a reminder, during the fire at the oil refinery, oil products spilled from a storage tank onto the road, damaging several vehicles.

Residents of Tuapse reported that after the attack, "the entire sky was covered in smoke," and the smell of burning was felt throughout the city throughout the day.
