An Armenian court has arrested Artur Avanesyan.

The court has arrested Artur Avanesyan, an associate of the leader of the Strong Armenia party, Samvel Karapetyan, and a participant in the military operations in Karabakh, for two months.

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia published a video and recording of phone conversations with Avanesyan, who is responsible for security at Strong Armenia. All the interlocutors speak the "Artsakh dialect" and address Avanesyan as "commander," which may indicate that they are his comrades-in-arms. The recordings discuss coalition formation and election preparations. The interlocutors express their views on the need to change the situation in the country and complain about unemployment. One of them stated that he wanted to join the party to find employment. In response, Avanesyan says that after victory, there will be "work, land, and a holiday." The agency believes that he thereby "promised to employ and otherwise bribe a number of voters in exchange for their votes" in the parliamentary elections.

Based on the recordings, criminal proceedings have been initiated against four individuals, and they have been detained.

Karapetyan's Strong Armenia party submitted documents to the Central Election Commission to participate in the National Assembly elections, which will take place on June 7. According to analysts, the parties of Karapetyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and former President Robert Kocharyan will be key competitors in the elections.

It should be noted that the most pro-Russian parties in the Armenian parliamentary elections are Samvel Karapetyan's "Strong Armenia," Robert Kocharyan's "Armenia," and Gagik Tsarukyan's "Prosperous Armenia." The Kremlin is banking on Karapetyan, but by law he cannot participate in the elections, Armenian political scientists previously pointed out.
