Any actions aimed at causing harm to medical personnel, especially serious harm to their health, cannot be justified, stated the head of the reconciliation department at the Muftiate of Dagestan, stating that he considers it impossible to participate in reconciliation following the knife attack on doctors in Makhachkala.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," the attack on doctors in the emergency room of the Republican Clinical Hospital in Makhachkala occurred on April 23. The attacker stabbed the traumatologist and surgeon on duty and was detained. He has been arrested for two months.

The Reconciliation Department of the Muftiate of the Republic of Dagestan received a request regarding the possibility of reconciling the parties in the recent high-profile attack on medical workers, the Muftiate of Dagestan reported.

The Muftiate would like to remind everyone of the importance of the medical profession. "We are talking about people whose profession is directly related to saving human lives. <...> This was especially evident during the pandemic. <...> And today, in difficult conditions, including in combat zones, they continue to help the wounded, often putting themselves in serious danger," reads a statement signed by Abdulla Yaikbayev, head of the Reconciliation Department at the Muftiate of the Republic of Dagestan.

"Any actions aimed at causing harm to medical personnel, especially serious harm to their health, cannot be justified. Regardless of the circumstances, including the possible condition of the person who committed the attack, such actions are unacceptable and deserve unequivocal condemnation. An additional aggravating circumstance in this case is the information that the person who committed the crime was under the influence of narcotics, which indicates the increased public danger of the incident," the statement reads.

Any complaints regarding the actions of doctors must be resolved "exclusively within the legal framework." "Arbitrary actions and attempts at 'lynching' are unacceptable and only exacerbate the situation, leading to grave consequences. Given the nature of the incident and its social significance, the Reconciliation Department of the Muftiate of the Republic of Dagestan considers its participation in this process of reconciliation impossible," the text states.
