The sentence against activist Saba Dzhikiya has been upheld.

The Court of Appeal upheld the sentence of protest participant Saba Jikia, who was sentenced in 2025 to 4.5 years in prison for kicking a special forces officer.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, a Tbilisi court sentenced 19-year-old protest participant Saba Jikia to 4.5 years in prison in July 2025 for kicking a special forces officer, although the victim claimed he was not injured.

The sentence of 19-year-old activist Saba Jikia, who was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, was upheld, Georgia Online reported on April 24.

The appeal against the sentence was heard by the Tbilisi Court of Appeals, which found no grounds for reviewing the lower court's decision. Jikia was 18 years old at the time of the sentence, but the court refused to apply juvenile law to the activist, which requires taking his age into account and considering alternatives to a real prison sentence.

It should be noted that daily protests have been taking place in Georgia since November 28, 2024, demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners. At one such protest on April 24, protesters expressed solidarity with Saba Dzhikiya.
