An armed attack on doctors was committed in Makhachkala.

A knife-wielding man seriously injured two doctors in the emergency room of the Republican Clinical Hospital in Makhachkala. The attacker fled the scene but was detained by police a short time later.

Reports of an attack on doctors in Makhachkala circulated this evening. The incident itself occurred earlier – judging by published footage, during daylight hours.

The attacker stabbed the traumatologist and surgeon on duty in the face and neck. The traumatologist's condition is assessed as moderate. The surgeon underwent surgery and was transferred to the intensive care unit, the Dagestan Ministry of Health reported on its official Telegram channel.

The incident is being investigated as attempted murder, according to the republic's Investigative Committee. According to the agency, the man attacked the doctors "due to sudden hostility."

Several Telegram channels published a version that the hospital was unable to provide assistance to the attacker's relative, with some sources citing the mother, others the daughter. The hospital administration denied this information, stating that no relatives of the man were being treated there, said Israfil Israfilov, head of the Dagestan Center for Crime and Investigation.

Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson Gayana Gariyeva asked residents of the republic not to spread false information about the incident, noting that there is no confirmed information yet about the attacker's motives.

"The 'mother,' 'daughter,' and other theories have not been confirmed. The detainee, a 32-year-old resident of the village of Aksai in the Khasavyurt district (originally from the village of Tlyarata in the Gumbetovsky district), has now been sent for a medical examination," she wrote on her Telegram channel, "Crime Chronicle."
