A PFPA activist was arrested after publishing a report about a school in disrepair.

A court has sentenced Yashar Gasimov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, to five days' arrest for petty hooliganism. The report against Gasimov was filed after he shared a video of a rural school in disrepair on social media.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," in 2025, Azerbaijani authorities intensified repression against the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), culminating in the arrests of party leader Ali Karimli and his associates, the PFPA previously stated.

Yashar Gasimov received five days of administrative arrest for distributing a video on social media showing the disrepair of a school in the village of Agatala in the Khachmaz region of Azerbaijan. On April 22, the district court found him guilty under Article 510 (petty hooliganism) of the Azerbaijani Code of Administrative Offenses, Natig Adilov, head of the PFPA press service, told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He noted that Gasimov had taught at a school several days earlier.

"This is a trumped-up charge. It is a violation of freedom of expression. He filmed a video of the school's dilapidated condition. In an oil country, schools should not be in such dilapidated condition; children should not study in such schools. This is yet another biased case against the PFPA. Currently, more than 20 of our activists, including leader Ali Karimli, are in prison on fabricated criminal charges. Furthermore, active party members are periodically subjected to administrative arrests," he emphasized.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the district court could not be reached for comment.
