The brother of the head of the Dagestan Ministry of Health has been arrested in connection with an embezzlement case.

Former Dagestan People's Assembly deputy Kirill Glazov has been arrested in connection with the embezzlement of 137 million rubles during the purchase of rapid coronavirus tests.

As reported by Caucasian Knot, at the end of February, 65 members of the Dagestan People's Assembly voted to strip Kirill Glazov of his mandate. The Dagestan Prosecutor's Office cited both violations of anti-corruption legislation and Glazov's actual absence from parliament. Glazov previously served on the Committee on Healthcare, Labor, and Social Policy.

According to investigators, Kirill Glazov, while serving as First Deputy Chairman of the Healthcare Committee, conspired with a former adviser to the head of Dagestan and other unidentified individuals to embezzle budget funds from the purchase of rapid coronavirus testing kits from November 2021 to March 2022, RIA Novosti reported today.

Regional Ministry of Health officials, acting on behalf of the accused, entered into contracts with a commercial organization to supply reagent kits at inflated prices, despite a more favorable offer from another supplier. As a result, according to investigators, 137 million rubles were stolen.

The Kirovsky District Court of Makhachkala remanded Glazov in custody for two months, or until June 13, 2026, inclusive, the regional courts' press service reported on Telegram.

Kirill Glazov is accused of fraud committed on an especially large scale. Punishment under this charge carries up to ten years in prison.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Nikulinsky Court of Moscow converted the Khasavyurt power grid complex, illegally acquired by Magomed Kaitov, former head of the Interregional Grid Company of the North Caucasus, into state revenue.
