Over 650 birds covered in oil products were delivered to volunteers in Anapa.

Over the past week, more than 650 oil-contaminated birds have been delivered from Anapa beaches to the rehabilitation center on Zhemchuzhnaya.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on April 12, a thousand bags of oil-contaminated soil were collected from the beach in Vityazevo, and approximately half of the contaminated area has been cleared. Volunteers received more than three hundred contaminated birds, and many are unable to be helped in time. By April 15, more than 400 injured birds had been reported.

The birds are being treated using a method developed last year: they are cleaned, washed, and treated before being released back into the wild, the Krasnodar Krai task force reported today.

All the necessary brushes, cotton pads, and diapers are currently available and continue to be supplied by caring individuals.

From April 9 to 15, approximately 650 waterfowl contaminated with oil products were delivered to the Zhemchuzhnaya Rehabilitation Center in Vityazevo. These were primarily black-necked grebes and black-throated loons, both listed in the Red Book. Previously, the center housed approximately 150 birds, some of whom had been there for several months, according to Roman Pukalov, director of the Green Patrol Ecocenter.

Many birds contaminated with oil products died on the shores before reaching the rehabilitation center, he noted.

As a reminder, on December 15, 2024, two tankers carrying fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died.
