A factory director in Ingushetia has been arrested for using slave labor.

Investigators in Ingushetia have opened a criminal case against the director of a furniture factory, suspected of using illegal migrant labor, forcibly keeping them in production. He has been arrested by court order.

As reported by Kavkazsky Knot, in February 2025, the Alternative movement reported that three men were held in labor slavery in the Sunzhensky District of Ingushetia, where they had their documents confiscated, were not paid, and were beaten for their infractions.

Officers from the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs' Migration Department have accused the 52-year-old director of a furniture factory located in the rural settlement of Kantyshevo of organizing the illegal migration of foreigners into Russia, RIA Novosti reported today, citing the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to preliminary reports, the businessman promised eight foreign citizens employment in Abkhazia with a monthly salary of $1,000, but instead brought them to Ingushetia, where, from September 2024, they began assembling furniture and lived directly on the factory premises. Moreover, they did not have work or residence permits in Russia.

"The defendant confiscated the foreigners' passports, deprived them of the opportunity to leave the facility, and forced them to work at his factory. Actual payments differed significantly from those promised: the workers received only 20,000 rubles per month. Of this amount, 12,000 were transferred to their families, and the remainder was given in cash," the department said in a statement.

A criminal case has been opened against the businessman under the article "Organizing Illegal Migration," which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
