Residents of a Makhachkala village demanded that obstacles in the riverbed be removed.

Residents of the Gazoraspredelitel settlement in Makhachkala have appealed to the mayor of Makhachkala and the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, demanding that the riverbed be cleared, which is flooding residents' homes.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," more than 800 socially significant facilities have been damaged by flooding in Dagestan, with approximately 1.5 million residents in the emergency zone. The republic's emergency level has been raised from regional to federal amid forecasts of a third wave of flooding. Several regions in southern Russia have sent humanitarian aid to residents of Dagestan affected by the flooding. The government of Dagestan has allocated 100 million rubles in payments to flood victims. In Makhachkala, 82,900 requests for one-time assistance, more than 10,000 claims for property loss compensation, and 297 claims for injury were received from victims.

A video message from residents of the village of Gazoraspredelitel was published today by the Telegram channel "Chernovik" 2.0, which has over eight thousand subscribers. By 8:00 PM Moscow time, the post had garnered more than 600 views.

"We, the residents of the Gazoraspredelitel district, demand attention. Mayor of Makhachkala, head of Dagestan, pay attention to us. Bring in specialists who understand rivers and lakes to this situation," the crowd demanded in the video.

According to the villagers, they have found a problem that is flooding not only their village, but also "PalmirU."

"This river has carved a new channel through our homes and property. We can't sleep at night and are forced to leave our homes because it's unsafe to live here. This is a huge flow of dirty water," the villagers stated.

Residents pointed to obstructions in the form of pipes that cross the riverbed in many places. They said they don't know how functional these pipes are. Perhaps they could simply be removed, as they are the cause of the blockage. "Two minutes of flooding and boards and trees get stuck, creating a dam of debris. The water is simply forced to find a new channel through our houses," residents complain.

"Rich people don't live here; doctors, pensioners, ordinary workers, and teachers live here. We abandoned our homes because they are unsafe. We're no longer asking for, but demanding, immediate attention. Come and deal with this problem here and now. Perhaps the channel needs to be widened, perhaps it needs to be cleared and deepened. Solving this problem will bring us peace of mind," the village residents concluded.

Today, authorities reported on clearing the Tarnairka River in Makhachkala and dismantling illegal structures blocking the flow of floodwaters. "Unauthorized construction within the riverbed is being demolished, and other potential obstructions to water flow are being monitored," the statement added. The work was carried out between 1st Vlazhnaya and 1st Istochnaya Streets.

Clearing and deepening the Talginka Riverbed is also underway from the new highway to 5th Akgelnaya Street. The work includes bottom cleaning, deepening, and widening the riverbed to increase the waterway's capacity, the Makhachkala administration reported on its Telegram channel.

These measures are aimed at reducing the risk of flooding in adjacent areas. On April 9, work will continue, including on the Palmyra microdistrict side, the administration indicated.

Six people died as a result of flooding in Dagestan. Five of them died in the village of Mamedkala in the Derbent district and its environs: a pregnant 17-year-old local resident, a 12-year-old child, a five-year-old girl and her grandmother, as well as 70-year-old Aminat Musayeva, who had been missing for three days. Earlier, on April 5, in the village of Kirki in the Kaytag District, Kistaman Mazanova, a local village council member and a resident of a house destroyed by a landslide, died.
