More than 120 families lost their homes in Chechnya as a result of flooding.

Construction of 27 more houses has begun for families displaced by the flooding in Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov announced.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," more than 100 homes were completely destroyed in the flooding in Chechnya, and over 3,000 were damaged. Residents of the republic filed 2,400 claims for compensation. By April 3, the water had receded from all flooded homes and garden plots in Chechnya. On April 5, it was reported that eight houses were damaged by a landslide in the village of Ilskhan-Yurt in the Kurchaloy District.

Chechen authorities have recognized at least 127 families affected by the flood as needing new housing. In addition to the 100 houses that were previously under construction in the village of Novy Benoy in the Gudermes District, another 27 houses are under construction in Gudermes, according to a post by Ramzan Kadyrov on his Telegram channel.

"A total of 127 individual residential houses are being built, ranging from 126 to 180 square meters, depending on the family size," the head of the republic wrote.

According to Kadyrov, he personally inspected the construction site in Novy Benoy, where "concrete pouring is almost complete" and "brickwork is underway" on all sections.

“Utility lines, including electricity, water, and gas, are being installed simultaneously. (...) Road construction is underway at the same time. Roofing work has already begun on some houses, while concrete and brick laying is nearing completion on others,” he reported.

A resident of Chechnya's Nozhai-Yurt district previously told the "Caucasian Knot" that many houses were destroyed by landslides after prolonged rains—sometimes the earth, along with buildings, shifted significant distances. “A powerful landslide swept our land plot from my parents' house in the Nozhai-Yurt district right onto our uncle's plot. But this is nothing serious compared to what happened in our Nozhai-Yurt and Gudermes districts—many people lost their homes,” he said.

"As many acquaintances say, most people are having to deal with the consequences of flooded apartment buildings on their own with the help of relatives and friends. The authorities are currently more preoccupied with general problems – cleaning the streets, clearing the roads," noted a commentator with the nickname earle under the "Caucasian Knot" publication from April 2.

According to the "Caucasian Knot" weather service, light rain fell in Gudermes today, and precipitation is expected to continue overnight into April 7.
