A university in Armenia has switched to online mode due to threats from Iran.

The American University of Armenia announced it would switch to online instruction due to "Iran's threat to universities in Western Asia and the Middle East." The university has not received any direct threats.

"Due to Iran's threat to target American universities in West Asia and the Middle East, all classes on Monday, March 30, will be held entirely online," Novosti-Armenia quotes AUA leadership as saying.

The university administration notes that this is a precautionary measure and emphasizes that no direct threats have been received against the university and there are no signs of any danger, so there is no cause for concern.

It also states that this is a purely preventative measure taken out of an abundance of caution, as community safety is a priority.

AUA community members are advised to regularly check their emails and rely solely on official university announcements for up-to-date information, the statement stated.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," a humanitarian aid collection has begun in Yerevan. For arriving Iranians, an ambassador for one of the foundations stated that up to a million people could arrive in Armenia. The influx of refugees from Iran to Armenia will negatively impact the country's economy and social sphere, social media commentators believe. Other users stated the need to help people in need. Some also believe the refugees will seriously impact relations between countries in the region.

164 employees of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant were evacuated from Iran through Armenia on March 27 and flew to Moscow. Since the escalation of the situation in the Middle East, 327 Russian citizens have been evacuated through Armenia.

As a reminder, on February 28, Israel and the United States began striking Iran. Donald Trump announced the start of a large-scale military operation.
