Residents of 283 settlements in Dagestan were left without electricity.

Specialists are addressing the aftermath of the power outages that left more than 327,000 residents of Dagestan without electricity.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," residents of Dagestan regularly complain of extended power outages, heating, and water supply problems. On January 21, many residents of Makhachkala were left without power due to another power outage, and on January 25, a pipeline burst in Makhachkala, leaving residents without water for almost two days.

In Dagestan, as a result of an emergency power outage, 132 settlements in eight districts (Levashinsky, Sergokalinsky, Tsuntinsky, Kaytagsky, Tabasaransky, Magaramkentsky, Agulsky, and Charodinsky) were left without power, the republic's Ministry of Emergency Situations reported today on its website.

"Preliminary causes are short circuits on power lines. Emergency restoration work is planned to begin at 7:00 AM on March 28, 2026, involving eight teams of electricians, comprising 25 people and eight pieces of equipment," the publication states.

According to Dagenergo, rain and strong winds led to the technological disruptions that left residents of 132 villages without power, Kommersant reports.

This afternoon, the Ministry of Emergency Situations published updated information on the scale of the outages. "As of 12:00 [Moscow time], 283 settlements with a population of 327,183, including 89,705 children, 72,152 homes, and 412 socially significant facilities remain without power. Emergency restoration work is being carried out by 22 electrical crews, consisting of 78 people and 22 units of equipment," the department's publication states.

As a reminder, in August 2025, residents of the Reduktorny settlement in Makhachkala staged a spontaneous protest due to the lack of power in their homes. The city administration subsequently reported that power had been restored to most homes. Residents of other areas of the city also complained of similar problems. However, officials focused on the proliferation of calls for mass protests against power outages on social media and threatened Makhachkala residents with liability for unauthorized protests. Dagestan Head Sergei Melikov, during a direct line on November 27, 2025, ignored pressing issues and provided only vague answers to questions raised. Residents of the republic were waiting for Melikov to explain the constant power and water outages, burning landfills, and rising utility and transportation costs.
